ABOUT UMBA
Umba Artlab is an art studio for children aged 2 to 12 in The Hague mainly at Oostduinlaan 2. We paint, draw, build architecture models, create animation, and experiment with different tools, materials, and ideas.
Classes take place in small groups, so every child receives individual attention and develops their own ideas rather than simply copying templates. It’s a wonderful opportunity to stay focused on a personal creative project, explore a variety of tactile materials and hands-on techniques, take a break from screens, and connect with like-minded creative friends.

COURSES

4-12 years old, different groupsART LABORATORYThis is our main course, covering the full range of art techniques and themes for children. Each class opens with a new topic — a style, a technique, or a specific artist. That gives kids a taste of art history along the way, and a starting point for a personal artwork.
We work with a wide range of materials: graphic tools, paint, printmaking, clay, modeling tools, and more, and experiment with animation along the way. Every child develops their own project, from an idea and a sketch through to a finished original piece — with no step-by-step instructions to follow. It's a valuable experience of bringing your own ideas to life.- Trial class: €15

7-12 years oldARCHITECTURE & DESIGNThis is our track for kids who want dig into how things that we use everyday are built. Through sketchbooks, model-making, and hands-on design projects, students explore composition and space with a designer's mindset. It runs alongside our regular art lab classes as a different way into visual thinking- Trial class: €15

8-13 years oldANIMATIONStop Motion Animation Classes give kids the chance to move from simply watching content to creating it themselves. From the very first storyboard to the finished film, children:- Invent their own characters and stories
- Learn how movement works, frame by frame
- Collaborate with others in a fun, supportive environment
- Bring their ideas to life as a complete project
- Trial class: €20

2,5-3 years old with a parentART PLAYGROUNDThese are playful art sessions for toddlers and their parents. We explore materials together through movement, touch, and simple creative actions.
Together we:- paint, build, tear, stick, and mix,
- explore color and texture,
- create freely, without pressure or expectations.
- Trial class: €15
- 70 eur per calendar month (20 per class)

Hi, I’m Anja (or Anna) — an artist, art teacher and a mother. I have been working with children for over 12 years, alongside my art studies and work as a stage designer at the theatre.
I teached different classes from playful experiments with toddlers to preparing students for Art A Level exam. But what truly amazes me is how fearlessly children invent and create — with courage and zero fear of mistakes. That was never possible at my theatre job, where everything has to be precise planned, designed and produced.
That’s why my classes are all about creating the space and time to experiment with materials, trying things out, and enjoying the process — not copying any template or trying to reach a any specific result.

INFORMATION
- Schedule & Attendance
- Regular group classes run throughout the academic year (38 weeks) with Zuid Holland holiday breaks
- During holidays workshops or art camps are available
- Payment & Booking
- Trial class is a one-time introductory session
- After the trial, participation continues as a monthly pass, billed automatically via direct debit on th 1st of each month
- Cancellation requires one full calendar month's notice; the following month is still billed, enrolment ends after that
- Missed Classes
- Fees for missed classes are non-refundable.
- If a class is missed, it is possible to attend another group’s class instead, by prior arrangement, if there is a free spot available.
- Cases of long-term absence (e.g. illness, travel) are always discussed individually.
- Language
- The groups are currently taught either in English or in Russian languages. It is always marked in the schedule.
- I am working hard on my Dutch (A2 currently), so hopefuly dutch groups are coming soon ;)
